The current population, an estimated 60,000, includes locals, transplants from the mainland, other islanders, Europeans and Middle Easterners, all living together to create a wonderful mixture of culture.   Seaside resorts, cozy inns, hotels, rental villas and cottages, as well as condominium properties, offer the traveler or potential investor a variety of accommodations that is sure to please.

St. Croix has two towns, Christiansted on the east and Frederiksted in the west, both offer their own unique charm and duty free shopping, of course.  The entire island offers superb restaurants, beautiful beaches, varied terrain and landscape bountiful with tropical flora and fauna.  St. Croix also offers travelers and potential investors the benefits of having the U.S. laws and jurisdiction, the same currency, English as our prime language and the security of a stable and democratic government.

A business and tourism friendly environment coupled with the prospects of hotel and casino development has brought an even greater sense of economic optimism to St. Croix and an exciting real estate market.  The market allows for a wide range of residential properties ranging from  $150,000 to multi-million dollar estates, depending on your tastes. It is possible here to find a comfortable two bedroom, two bath home with an ocean view and pool in the $200,000 - $300,000 range.

The condominium, a popular investment, can be purchased for under $100,000 or one-half of the price they sold for in the mid-1980's.  Today's market is able to accommodate almost anyone's needs and budget.
Once you've settled on St. Croix, even if just as a seasonal local, you will notice that the people here are very casual, so is the attire.  In St. Croix, year round you can relax in shorts and a t-shirt.  Some, not many, do dress up a little for work.  A nice pair of slacks and a shirt can carry you from work to church to a nice dinner.  Remember, you're in the islands, so just relax.  Forget hair styling products, trade in that goop for a tropical flower,  and some sunscreen instead of make-up.

While relaxing, take some time to get to know St. Croix.  While exploring St. Croix's history and culture, you will find two forts.  Fort Christianvearn in Christiansted and Fort Frederik in Frederiksted lend the opportunity for one to learn of the island's military efforts of the past.  St. Croix's preservation  of culture and architectural heritage is fired by the St. Croix Landmarks Society.  The Estate Whim Plantation Museum and the Lawaetz family Museum, both proudly showcased by the Landmark's Society, are open to the public.  On location, you will find remnants of the past sugar plantations, most likely in the form of a mill.  Over 110 of these mills still dot the land of St. Croix.
St. Croix is also home to the St. George Village Botanical Gardens.  This 16 acre garden is listed twice in the National Registry of Historic Places in Washington, D.C.  As you walk through, you will find displays of plantation life colored with a wealth of tropical flora and fauna.  A tropical forest, medicinal garden, a cactus garden and fruit garden are among the things to see while at the Botanical Gardens.

If you haven't gotten a hang of the "relax" thing yet, try venturing through the Cruzan Rum Distillery.  This  exciting tour tells how the award winning Cruzan Rum is made.

St. Croix is not just a beautiful place.  It is a place of opportunity, of history, culture, and pride, filled with colorful people.
